Author Guidelines

ORBIT publishes work that is of relevance to RRI. This includes empirical research, theoretical and conceptual considerations, but also other output that may be of relevance to the community, which may include audiovisual material or artistic representations.

Please use the following template to ensure that your work is submitted and reviewed more efficiently.

For the response to the review, please create a separate response document. You can use this template:

Manuscript length

ORBIT is an online journal. It therefore does not  have strict limits on word count or manuscript length. However, in order to aid readability and uptake, authors are encouraged to be as brief and concise as possible.

Language style

ORBIT is an academic publication but aims to be accessible to multiple stakeholders. Authors are therefore encouraged to write in a way that allows readers to easily understand their argument.

The use of UK English is encouraged.

The title should be concise to allow the audience to quickly assess the relevance of the paper for their purposes. A subtitle can be used, if required, to clarify the content of the paper.

Authors and affiliation

Author names and affiliations will be displayed at the start of each paper, following the title. The corresponding author and their email address are highlighted.

A short abstract of no more than 200 words is to be included.

Authos can freely choose keywords that characterise the content of their article.

Headings and sub-headings

Heading styles should be used in accordance with the guidance provided in the template document. There are no set headings or section titles.

Figures and Table Guidelines

Figures and tables should be used in accordance with the template document.

Conflict of Interest statement

Authors are required to provide a conflict of interest statement. If no conflict of interest exists, this should be made explicit.

Funding sources can be listed at the end of the paper.

Acknowledgements can be listed at the end of the paper.

Where funding or acknowledgemetns infringe on the anonymity of the doubl-blind peer review process, they should be removed prior to final revisions after acceptance.

References should be used in the APA style.

Supplementary material

If the paper requires access to supplementary material, the ORBIT system may be able to host this. Please contact the editor separately during or after peer review.

A template that will allow you to fulfil the formatting requirements is available here.

Cover letter

A cover letter to the editor is encouraged for the initial submission. Revised resubmissions require a cover letter outlining the response to the reviews.

Research ethics

Where the reserach requires ethics approval a statement to the effect that this has been gained and sufficient information to inform the authorising body should be included.

Data policy

Wherever possible data on which papers are based should be made available. Authors should provide guidance that will allow readers to access the data.
